How to pair with Bluetooth devices while using BlackBerry Z10 smartphone

Bluetooth wireless technology allows you to create a direct connection between your BlackBerry smartphone and another Bluetooth-enabled device. Although you can transfer files over a Bluetooth connection, because of its ability to stream content, Bluetooth connections are more commonly used for actions such as playing the music through a separate speaker or making calls on a wireless headset.

Here’s an overview of how to get started with Bluetooth on your BlackBerry Z10 smartphone, including setting your device name, pairing it with a Bluetooth device, and more.

Turn on Bluetooth Technology

  1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap Bluetooth
  3. If the Bluetooth switch is Off, set it to On

When Bluetooth technology is on, the Bluetooth icon that appears in the Settings drop down menu turns blue and appears in the upper-left corner of the screen. When a connection is made with another Bluetooth device, you’ll notice the Bluetooth icon turns solid white instead of grey in the status bar. To turn off Bluetooth technology, tap the Bluetooth icon after swiping down from the top of the screen.

Give your device a nickname

You can change the name of your BlackBerry device as it appears to other devices. This nickname is helpful when you share media files wirelessly or connect using Bluetooth technology. To set your device name, complete the following steps.

  1. On your Home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap Settings followed by About
  3. In the Device Name field, enter the new name for your device

Pair and connect with a Bluetooth enabled device

To connect your BlackBerry device with another Bluetooth enabled device such as a wireless headset, you will them pair them first. Before proceeding, make sure you are familiar with how the Bluetooth device you would like to use pairs with other devices because you may need to place it into pairing mode first. For more assistance, review the information that came with the Bluetooth device.

  1. On your Home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Bluetooth and ensure that Bluetooth is turned on.
  3. Your BlackBerry device will automatically detect discoverable devices within range.
    • If the device that you want to connect to appears in the Devices list, tap the device name & complete the instructions that appear on the screen.
    • If the device doesn’t appear in the Devices list, it might not be discoverable or in pairing mode. Verify that the device is discoverable then try again. If you don’t know how to check that the device is discoverable, consult the documentation that came with the device.
    • If the device doesn’t appear in the Devices list on your BlackBerry smartphone, and you can’t connect by making it discoverable, you may need to initiate the pairing procedure from the Bluetooth device. To make a BlackBerry smartphone discoverable, in the Discoverable drop-down list, tap On or 2 Minutes and followed by the pairing process according to the documentation that came with the Bluetooth device.

Your devices are now ready to share and communicate over the Bluetooth connection. Depending on the device you paired with, your devices are either connected or ready to connect when you initiate a Bluetooth related action such as sharing a file or making or receiving a phone call.

Delete a paired Bluetooth enabled device

If you have a long list of paired Bluetooth enabled devices on your BlackBerry smartphone, you can delete the ones you no longer use to make it easier to find the ones that you do use.

  1. From the top of the home screen, swipe down
  2. Tap Bluetooth followed by tapping Paired
  3. Tap a device following tapping Delete
